3)STANDARD GRACEY CURETTES

The standard Gracey curette is used in a back-and-forth motion to scrape tartar off of teeth. It can also be used to remove plaque and food debris from between teeth. Gracey curettes come in different sizes and shapes, so your dentist or hygienist will choose the one that is best suited for your mouth.

If you have never had your teeth cleaned with a Gracey curette before, you may be wondering what to expect. Generally, the procedure is not painful and only takes a few minutes. Your dentist or hygienist will start by gently scraping your teeth with the Gracey curette and then flossing them to remove any remaining plaque or tartar.

TYPES OF STANDARD GRACEY CURETTES

There are two main types of Standard Gracey Curettes:

1. The Universal Curette – this type of curette is designed for use on all teeth, both erupted and unerupted. It has a slightly curved blade with a rounded tip.

2. The Anterior Curette – this type of curette is specifically designed for use on the front teeth (anterior teeth). It has a straighter blade with a sharper tip.

The Gracey curette is available in a variety of sizes and shapes. The most common size is the 1/2 inch curette, which is used for cleaning the average sized tooth. The 1/2 inch curette can also be used for cleaning smaller teeth, but it may not be able to reach all areas of the tooth. If you are cleaning a smaller tooth, you may need to use a smaller size Gracey curette, such as a 3/8 inch or 1/4 inch curette.

The Gracey curette is also available in different shapes. The most common shape is the round shape, which is used for general cleaning of all teeth surfaces. The square shape Gracey curette is typically used for cleaning molars and premolars, as well as other areas that are difficult to reach with a round shaped Gracey curette. There are also angled and pointed Gracey curettes available, which can be useful for reaching into tight spaces or corners of the mouth.

The Gracey Standard Curette (Fig. 11/12) is a hand-held, sharpened, metal instrument used to scrape and remove tartar (calculus) from teeth. It has a handle with a finger rest and a blade that tapers to a fine point. The blade is slightly curved and has two cutting edges - one on the inside curve and one on the outside curve.

The Gracey Standard Curette is used with a light back-and-forth scraping motion to remove tartar from the teeth. It can be used on both erupted (visible) and unerupted (hidden) tooth surfaces. When used on erupted tooth surfaces, the curette is held at a 45-degree angle to the tooth surface and scraped along the length of the tooth. When used on unerupted tooth surfaces, the curette is inserted into the gingival sulcus (the space between the gum and the tooth) and then scraped along the length of the tooth.
